In April 2013, CEN decided to go ahead with the elaboration of a future European standard for Halal Foods and the CEN/Technical Committee 425 “Halal Food” was set up. The Turkish Standardization Institute (TSE), has taken up the secretariat responsibility for this new Technical Committee.

CEN is a major provider of European Standards and technical specifications and it is the only recognized European organization for the planning, drafting and adoption of European Standards. Once a European standard is adopted, the standard also becomes a national standard in each of the 33 CEN Member countries.

takes part in drafting this standard as head of the Belgian delegation. The project kicked off in Istanbul on 23 and 24 september 2013.
