With the Indonesian Halal law 33/2014, entering in force in 17.10.2019, products imported, distributed and sold as Halal in Indonesia must be mandatory certified Halal, or they will have to be labelled as Haram. This law is not limited to food products but covers cosmetic and pharmaceutical products as well.
One of big changes under the new system is the creation of an Indonesian government agency (Halal Product Guarantee Agency/Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal : BPJPH) to oversee the entire Halal product assurance system, including the approval of Halal Certification bodies.
Primarily intended for Indonesian companies, access to BPJPH certification procedures is not easy for non Indonesian companies.
